So I'll get right into it! I'm a big "use what you got" kind of person and in that I was able to complete serval fun projects!
First: Our house sits on an acre and we have a really big back yard and nice back porch, but we have yet to find outdoor furniture I love and can afford. So through looking on some blogs I read I found how to make a patio table out of pallets (Joy Ever After). So we had a stack of pallets behind our fence, paint leftover from the previous owners and wood in the shop to make the legs, all we had to do was buy some wheels!! It didn't turn out exactly how I thought, but it ended up only 1 pallet was good behind our house so I went and found a stack of pallets next to a dumpster and kind of borrowed one :), but with this the pallets ended up not being the same size. I love it and am extremely happy with the way it turned, my husband on the other hand is not so fond of it as he is a little OCD and does not like that the pallets are different sizes :) I think it looks great on our porch and we went from nothing to a big table for $12, now to just figure out some chairs....
The next home project I decided to take on was to add a backsplash in our kitchen by using a stencil. Our hopes are to one day add a tile or little more fancy backsplash, but for now I used, again, leftover paint from previous owners and I ordered a stencil from Royal Design Studio. I did a lot of research looking for best and easiest to use stencil and Royal Design did not let me down. The stencil came with easy to use instructions and after a few uses, I can't say I'm a pro but I did get pretty good! I'm not quite sure exactly how long it took me, but I'm going to say somewhere between 4 and 5 hours....
The final and probably biggest project of the weekend was a project Kyle and I tackled together and would not of been able to complete without the help of his amazing aunt, uncle and cousin! We decided to clean out the flower bed around the house and plant new flowers! The bed was filled with monkey grass and other types of over taking grasses. Kyle and I began to clean the flower bed, but much thanks and appreciation go to Chris and Clay for their hard work in helping Kyle really clean it out!! We visited Lowe's, Home Depot and TG Trees & Plants to look for plants/flowers and everything I picked out grows in a rainforest; therefore, it got vetoed. If you know Lubbock you know it is the complete opposite of a rainforest... So I let Kyle make the plant decisions and I decided on the layout! We ended up with knock out roses, lantana's and feather grass! We've obviously never had a flower bed before so I'm so excited for everything to grow and be plush!! Here are some before and after pictures of the flower bed...
It's hard to see here, but we took the bushy mess of grass leading up to our doorway and planted beautiful lantanas; which you can see better in the picture above! Once they grow we'll have a beautiful batch of yellow/pink/red flowers welcoming you to our front door!
So all we have left to do is add the top layer of gravel and our flower bed will be well on it's way! Excited to watch everything grow and mature!!
The last home project I'll throw in here I actually did the weekend before, but it's more on the crafty side! I decided we needed a bright summery wreath for our front door and I saw this idea on Thirty Handmade Ideas and thought I could just tweak it a little. I took my friend Hilary with me to pick out yarn to make sure it was summery and not babyish wreath, if you know me you know I tend to put things together that look like they're made for a baby or baby room. So with Hil's help I was able to put this awesome wreath together! You can even see it from the road when you drive by our house!!
Happy in life!
