Finding My Inner Artistic Abilities

So if you haven't heard about this new concept that came to Lubbock, I'm not really sure but maybe a year ago or so, it's called Painting with a Twist. So obviously the painting part is pretty understood, you begin with a blank canvas and end with a 'hopeful' beautiful painting. The twist part is that you are allowed to bring anything and everything you would like to drink and/or eat. My friend Courtney and I had been biting at the bullet to have our own painting experience, but nothing ever seriously caught or eye, or we weren't both available until...they offered a painting of Will Rogers wrapped in Red and the painting came from a picture I submitted to them via facebook.

Not knowing what to expect and by not having any painting/artistic free hand experience we opted for a bottle of Llano Blush with some fruit, cheese and crackers - we must say it was the perfect combo for a night of painting. Now the ladies/gent who must have been more experienced carried in several bottles of wine, a nearly 30 pack of beer and some were even taking shots....food ranged from Chick-fila platters, to subway and then more fruit and cheese! It really was an interesting site!

Courtney and I tied our black aprons on, settled infront of our blank canvas, which weren't technically blank as they had sketched our painting on it with a pencil, and prepared ourselves for our first painting experience. Kat was our instructor and she was really good about explaining what colors to mix and what color we were trying to mix for and would show us which part to paint, it was almost like paint by number. We started with the beautiful West Texas sky, then added the Bell Tower into the sky, added the bushes, then the lovely West Texas brown dirt and last but not least we worked on Will Rogers and Soapsoads. We went step by step and each time I'm pretty sure we found a spot we could "fix" or "needed work on." It'd get to the point I'd say I have to put my brush down and leave it alone! It was a great 3 hour experience and we are sure we'll be trying our artistic abilites out again.

So if you live in/around Lubbock and are looking for a different experience try Painting with a Twist. They offer a wide variety of paintings each month. Check out their calendar here: http://www.paintingwithatwist.com/lubbock/calendar/

Until next time here are a few pictures to show you my painting from beginning to end.

Happy Painting and love!
