Finding our New Normal

Zoey has hit the two month mark and I finally feel like we are somewhat finding our new normal.

I'm not going to lie, that first month was probably the hardest month of my life. Trying to transition to a family of 4, dealing with an extremely gassy baby, my hormones going crazy and my body just trying to recover from the train wreck it went through called delivery. I cried, a lot. I was beyond exhausted, trying to deal with Zoey yet still keep up the same love and same level of energy with Zeke. We were only sleeping 2-3 hours at a time, and some days I just felt so alone. I mean seriously the first month was hard, there were days I seriously thought is this what post partum depression feels like?!, but all that passed and the second month has been like a new beginning.

Zoey really struggled with gas issues her first month, but I think it was a combination of the fact that she can't tolerate me eating dairy and she literally just didn't know how to eat/suck. I think she caused 75% of her gas issues. I'm still on a dairy free diet, but she no longer chokes or spews milk every where while she eats. It's like she just figured it out and became coordinated enough to eat. The dairy free diet isn't really bad; however, I'm seriously craving greek yogurt! I found that the vanilla silk yogurt isn't bad, but it's no where near as healthy or thick and creamy as the greek. Besides the dairy free I'm just really strict about what I eat, small amounts of spicy foods, very little to any caffeine and zero gassy veggies! Some days are easier then others, but if a little bit of sacrifice on my part can help her feel better and not scream at us it's all worth it the end. It also helps to know that one day, one day I'll have greek yogurt again and spicy foods and broccoli etc.

Sleeping. Oh the sweet sweet sleep. Thankfully around week seven Zoey started sleeping, what I'd call, through the night. She sleeps 6-8 hours and it is pure bliss! She doesn't' really have a strict day routine, cat napping when she wants, eating every 3-4 hours and just hanging out. However, we have had a very strict bed time routine since week 2/3 and now she lets us know when it's getting close to bath time. Right now she goes to bath at 9, then enjoys a nice little baby massage (aka we put lotion on her), put her in her pajamas and she eats. After she eats and burps she goes right into her baby straight jacket  sleep sack and is in bed by 10. Depending on the evening, she usually starts to get fussy around 8:30 and we just do different things to keep her happy till 9.

Zeke is also doing much better this month, not asking to leave her in the car, or in the house by herself anymore. Everyday after school he has to "check" on his baby sister and he will tell me "I need to wash my hands so I can play with Zoey." Side note: from day 1 when he came home from school he had to wash his hands and face before getting around baby sister. He has also become really good at sharing all of his toys with sister and he even tried to share his skittles with her, yeah that was a bit scary. He keeps asking Zoey to play with him, but she's just too small. I have a feeling that by the time she is ready to play he will be over it. :) I'm very thankful for his love for her, but we shall see how long it last.

I kept telling Kyle I was ready for things to be back to normal and realistically the past month had gone back to normal, it's just a new normal, and a new normal that I've fallen in love with.

I took those (above) at night and apparently she didn't feel like smiling for me, but I took these (below) before the doctor's visit, in the morning, and she was all smiles!

Then this was at the doc's office before shots!

Of course we can't forget brother, he wouldn't sit still, but he was all cheese for the camera!

And here is a sweet picture of him sharing his blankets and elmo with her.

Here's to our new normal!
