Life with a 1.5 year old

Life in general is crazy and hectic, but when you add a 1.5 year old to the mix things get wild. Or maybe it's just that our 1.5 year old is a wild bancee. :) It seems we are always on the go. The child refuses to sit still for longer than maybe 30 seconds. He is still not into TV shows or movies, he is just too busy and apparently they can't hold his attention. I still call him Zeke the tornado because it is very evident to see where he was been! Kyle and I try to think back to what our life was like pre Zeke and we just think about all the naps we got to take on the weekends and all the tv/movies we wanted to watch, but that is all down the drain, for now. As exhausting as life can be, we try to remember that it will not always be this way. One day there won't be any blocks spread out across the entire house, or toys overflowing in the living room. Our living room won't always be a playroom, but for now it's not a living room but Zeke's playroom and that's ok!

He really is so much fun, I don't think we have ever laughed so much every day as we do now. His little personality is so silly and mischievous. He is curious about EVERYTHING and anything. He loves to mock us in everything we do. He LOVES the broom and "helps" with sweeping and he LOVES Kyle's tools, probably some in which he should not play with. He loves to take the screw driver and "work" on all the screws on his fort, he is such a handy man! He still prefers to be outside than inside and still loves the dirt as much as ever. He has been doing sign language since he was 11 months old, but we've been working with using our words with the sign language. He is to the point he repeats everything and I mean everything we say. I can't remember exactly what we were doing, but we were driving somewhere and I had forgot something at the house and said "oh crap" next thing I know Zeke is nearly chanting in the back seat "oh crap" "oh crap" "oh crap" it was so hard not to laugh. You can ask him to say nearly anything and he will say it, now if we could only get some sentences flowing, but I know that day will be here before we know it.

He currently has an obsession for trucks, especially "big trucks" (aka 18 wheelers). Anytime a truck passes us he yells his version of "truck." It can be a big truck, a utility truck, a school bus, a fire truck or even a car, he just loves trucks! He has also found his love for blocks, he puts them together then takes them apart and does it all over again. You definitely have to watch where you walk when you come into our house, I can't guarantee you won't step on a block somewhere.

With all the fun also comes some not so fun times. We have had 5 behavioral reports at school for biting our friends. I nicknamed him Hannibal Lector :) We don't bite at home or anywhere else for that matter, but he also doesn't have someone at home trying to eat his food or take his toys. He also has 14 teeth with 2 more coming in so it seems that teething is never ending for the kid (not that this is an excuse for his biting) and time out apparently doesn't help with biting, but they can't bite him back not even with my permission. :( Every morning I drop him off at school and we have a little chat. I get down on my knees, look him in the eyes and tell him "ok Zeke today is a good day, we will not bite our friends, we will not throw toys, and we will be good." he just replies with his usual "uh huh." He has become really good at throwing everything, food, blocks, actually all his toys lol. We are working on only throwing balls, needless to say it's frustrating.

We are also working on manners, he is very good at waving hi and saying please. We are working on saying thank you and he melts my heart every time he says it and last night for the first time I heard him say sorry and I almost died from his cuteness! He loves to give hugs and kisses to family and close friends, but he loves to blow kisses to everyone he meets. We tell him to say bye-bye and he blows the biggest kiss!

I have lots of people ask how his ears have been and since his second set of tubes and the removal of his adenoids, they couldn't be better. We actually went to the allergist for a check-up and his allergies have turned into an infection so we are on a two week regimen of a steroid and antibiotic, hopefully to clear up his cough and thick nasty drainage. If it returns after the two weeks we have to go back in, but if not we don't go back till Nov. and then she wants to do an x-ray and study of his immune system. Right now I just pray the meds help and his cough will subside and the drainage will go away, but with all of the drainage his ears have been and are great! (now lets all knock on wood!)

We are officially 18 months and with that we had our 18 month check-up. Here are his stats and some random pictures from both my phone and camera.

Zeke Douglas Pate
18 months
28 pounds 2 ounces - 86.68 percentile
33.5" - 50.21 percentile
head: 19.8" - 98.67 percentile (I'm not sure why they measure the head and I don't usually mention it, but seriously the kid has a big head)

we found the greatest deal for a playground or what we call Zeke's "fort" on craigslsist and he absolutely LOVES everything about it. He makes me nervous climbing up the ladder, but he has it figured out! It can keep him entertained for hours.

The rest of these are random from my phone, but enjoy. :)

Told you the kid loves to sweep, mop and vacuum.

of course we still love bath time!

His security animals: moo cow and tigger. He has also started carrying a blanket with him everywhere he goes. He drags it around like Linus from Charlie Brown.

Mister Independent loves to feed himself, we usually end with a bath right after dinner, but it is so fun to watch how proud he is of himself when he uses his spoon and fork!

His daddy taught him "pow-pow" so now he walks around the house saying pow-pow with everything.

We don't take too many videos, but I told Kyle there are things I just want to remember and have to keep. So we took a video of him saying some of his favorite words. I also got a short video of his pow-pow and I'm not sure why he throws the gun afterwards, but like I said he is throwing everything…

I absolutely adore our sweet, loving, curious, fearless, mischievous 1.5 year old and every day is a new adventure!

Here's to many more adventures with The Zekester!
