Working Out Post Pregnancy = Tougher than Herding Cats in a Rainstorm

If you are one who loves to workout and have experienced pregnancy you'll probably understand everything I'm about to say. If you are one who loves to workout and have yet to experience pregnancy then just enjoy and laugh with me!

Today marks 6 weeks since the delivery of Zeke, I can't believe it's been 6 weeks and to me my body doesn't look like what I thought it'd look like 6 weeks later... I went to my doctor today for my 6 week check-up and all is good! She said everything looks good and I'm approved to get back to working out as long as I "take it easy" and listen to my body. Apparently all my insides aren't back to where they are suppose to be and there is still pressure and I can get really sore blah blah blah What my doctor doesn't know is that 3 weeks ago I began walking and 2 weeks ago I began easy running. I say easy running because I couldn't run very far without needing to walk and I was still a little sore so I didn't want to push it too hard!

I decided on Sunday, since it was the beginning of week 6, that I would get to my hard core running and working out, as long as my body would feel up to it. Little did I know running would not be as fun or as easy as it was. I'm not sure if you are aware, but trying to run with double d girls full of milk is miserable and can cause excruciating pain; therefore, this momma learned to pump and "empty" those puppies out before heading out!! Not only do I have girls that are larger than life, I have a belly that is marked with tiger stripes and feels like jello! You run with a tummy of jello and tell me how it feels!?!

The past week I was running/walking around my neighborhood, but since our neighborhood is so awesome we know everyone, and with the weather being extremely nice everyone has been outside so I decided I just couldn't take this whale of a body outside and put people through the misery of seeing me run by, so I had Kyle move our treadmill in from the shop to the house! Now I can run anytime during the day and he doesn't have to be home for me to run! (Zeke can't go in my jogging stroller till 6 months). Running is really hard and disappointing when this time last year I was running nearly 4 miles with my friend Holly and now I can barely run a mile without nearly passing out!

I guess I just thought getting back into running would be fun, exciting and I would just love it, but not no, hell no it's not fun, exciting or am I loving it. It is harder than herding cats in a rainstorm. So each day it is extremely hard to motivate myself to run, but thankfully after each run I feel so much better and thankful for the run!

I must say looking back I am glad that I worked out through week 39 of pregnancy; A) I only pushed for 20 mins during delivery and B) I gained less than 40 pounds. Which it was still too much in my opinion, but I guess for Zeke it was worth it! Gaining those nearly 40 pounds my body was like hell yeah we're having a party!!!... my genetics and body just like to gain weight and then it DOES NOT like to lose it or shed it easily! So it makes getting back to pre pregnancy weight extremely hard! If you're not aware, you're not suppose to "diet" while nursing so it makes losing baby weight a little more difficult! So I'm left with my running and portion control, but I want you to be a lactating cow and tell me how portion control goes?!? I'm so ravenous that I feel I could eat both an arm and a leg off every day!

So for now I'll push myself harder ever day with each run and I'll work on portion control, because not only do I feel like a whale, but my prego clothes are too big and my normal clothes are too small. Oh the joys of mommyhood!

Here's to herding cats in a rainstorm!
Mary

Thankful he's so cute, it makes all the sacrifices and struggles worth it!!

Watching mommy run on the treadmill puts me to sleep!

I just had to share this little video. Zeke has 2 playmats that he loves and 1 has a piano that plays music when he kicks it! He is already getting a workout and learning to play music!!
