A Sweet, Sweet Summertime Vacation

Kyle travels quite a bit throughout the summer for work, but we were able to get in a great family vacation in between all his trips. We spent 9 days in and around Houston and at the beach. Looking back we were laughing/joking about it not even being a vacation for Kyle & I, because if you know having a 2 yr old keeps you busy all day every day. There is no sleeping in, no napping when you want, no hanging out at a cool bar downtown (although mom and dad are really good about taking care of Zeke so Kyle and I can go out), etc. Vacations are just different when you have kids, but honestly we wouldn't have it any other way. As Kyle put it the other day "Zeke is the one of the coolest things we have ever done."

So speaking of going out, Kyle and I started our vacation by going to see Garth Brooks. For those who have known me my entire life you know I've been in love with Garth since the beginning of time. I remember going to Blockbuster and renting the VHS of his concerts. I have every CD and know the lyrics to all his songs! There is no way I was going to pass up Garth in Houston and I'm glad we didn't. It was a solid 2.5 hour concert and he did not disappoint! I still can't believe I saw him in person! I could post 100 pictues, but here is just one. :)

Zeke spent most of his time at nanna and papa's outside. Playing in his pool, mowing grass, using papa's blower, or just playing around. There's not much to say other than the kid just lives to be outside.  I think the pictures say it all…

Mom and dad had a stray kitten come up and they are trying to keep it in the barn to help with mice and snakes, well Zeke took a huge loving to the cat! He would carry it all around outside and love on it for hours. If I wasn't so allergic and Bear-Bear wouldn't try to eat it, I'd be all about having an outdoor cat, aka shop cat. Can't you see Kyle loving that idea….

While home we had a surprise 30th birthday party for Kyle, his birthday is actually tomorrow, but he is in Corpus so we just celebrated early. The great thing about going to Houston is not only do we get to see my family, but we get to see his sister Kasey and bro-n-law David. Although David is finishing up classes for pharm school we didn't get to see him as much this trip, but it was fun to see Kasey! She came over for the birthday surprise and we got to go to an Astros game with her! We truly love seeing them and are thankful mom and dad are more than happy to take care of the kid while we spend "adult" time with them! :)

One morning I decided to look for a splash pad to take Zeke to and thankfully a friend from high school recommend a great park not far from the house. It was awesome, I wish Lubbock had something like it. It's a public park, free and motion activated so if it's not being played on it just doesn't work. It was really nice, but also in one of the richest school districts around, so that probably helps. :) Zeke loved it, not only did he play for hours in the water, but he also fed the ducks and if the rain wouldn't have come in we would of played on the big playground. We will be visiting it again!

Not only did we spend hours at nanna and papa's house, have a birthday party and go to a splash pad we also took Zeke to the Houston Children's Museum and it was amazing. If you have kids and have never been I highly suggest it. If Zeke didn't need to eat or take a nap I'm sure we could have spent all day there. It was a great experience at 2.5 and I know it'll be an even better experience as he gets older and understands all that is inside. Again, I think the pictures tell it all and yes Kyle even had fun!

To end the week we went to the beach house in Sargent for the 4th of July! Zeke is in love with the sand and the water, he is fearless and would just run out to the water. Thankfully mom and dad love getting in the water and would go out in the surf with him. I went as far as to put a chair in the sand and let the waves comes up over my feet. Yes, I grew up down there, but I have never ever been a big fan of getting in the water. Call me crazy I don't care :)  Not only did he love the beach itself, but he also loved the fireworks. Obviously he was only a few months old for his first 4th of July and then last year he slept through all of it so this was his first year to actually enjoy the fireworks, and enjoy he did! I told Kyle we just need to by like 5 boxes of sparklers, as soon as one would burn out he would just say again, again! He was so excited to see the big fireworks and it was such a joy to see the excitement on his face when one would go off. It's something I'll never forget! I'm so glad he loves the beach and I look forward to taking him every year!

For once we didn't have to deal with any crazy sickness while we were gone, just the normal allergy/sinus stuff. The allergist ran an IG panel and checked his vaccine tithers (or whatever) and found his pneumococcal something something big long words was extremely low so we have to go and get a pneumo vaccine. However, our pcp can not order it till Aug. 1. We also saw the ENT before we went to Houston and Zeke has fluids on both ears, we have a check up this week and if they are not clear we will be getting our 3rd set of tubes. We also have another check up with the allergist this week, but she is beginning to think all his issues may be sinus based and not allergy based. She also thinks it could deal with his antibodies being low. I'm telling you he is like a hot mess, but in the most positive way. I know it could be a lot worse, but I'm ready to have some answers and for our sweet little guy to not be full of drainage or infections.

Overall vacation was a blast and I'm so thankful to my husband for always being so willing or seem so willing to go to Houston. As much as he hates the heat and humidity we really do have so much fun! That may have been our last big vacation as a family of 3.

September is fast approaching and I'm beyond ready! It's hot, just saying. :)

Here's to future vacations as a family of 4!
