We never realized how hard it was to figure out a baby name until we had to start thinking about it. There are so many things to consider, so many want to give their input and then I had so many standards alone! I wanted something unique, but very manly and strong. I wanted a name that could be an athlete, a cowboy, a CEO, a rockstar, a lawyer, a doctor or fit into any other field! So once we found it was a boy we began discussing names! I had a list of about 8 names and it dwindled to 3 and for a week Baby P would go by one name and then it would change to another and finally one night Kyle said he needed another list of 8-10 names. So I began making another list, keeping those 3 and adding 6 more! If you've never done this looking for a baby name can be quite overwhelming!! As much as I wanted unique, strong and manly a big part of my heart has always wanted part of his name to come from the bible. So the search began and I looked up biblical names, then on to unique names, then names of athletes, rockstar names and I even found a "badass" list so of course I had to check it out! After I had my list I took it to Kyle and told him "next time you want a list of names, you are making it! This is my last list."
On that list was a wide variety of names, but I kind of already had my heart set on one, I was just going to wait for Kyle. Again he had 3 he liked and I told him the name I liked (which was on his list of 3) so we decided to look up the meaning and it blew us away! We talked about it and Kyle was like how do we finally pick a name? I replied with "I don't know." So we decided to call him by it and if it sticks it sticks. :) So we have been calling him this name for awhile and finally yesterday I texted Kyle and said I love it and I want it to be his name! Kyle agreed and we talked more about it last night (after someone at school made a not so nice comment about it). It really made me upset, but this morning I talked to Kyle and decided it doesn't matter what other people say I love his name and the meaning of it and so does Kyle. So if you're curious we have a name and I love him even more now that he has a name! *insert drumroll here* :)
ZEKE DOUGLAS PATE
ZEKE: comes from Ezekiel in the bible meaning God will strengthen! We know that life is not a cake walk and without the strength of God we would not be where we are today nor have the blessings we have. We pray that God will strengthen our little Zeke while he is growing strong and healthy inside my tummy and that God will continue to strengthen Zeke to be a young loving man of God, who with His help will be able to conquer all he puts his mind to!
"It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feel like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze." Psalm 18: 32-34
DOUGLAS: has a very special meaning to me and even Kyle. We were looking for a name from someone in our family for the middle name so we started with our dads, then our grandfathers and others throughout our family. Douglas sits heavy on my heart because as most know we suddenly and unexpectedly lost my Uncle Doug (Douglas) this past May. Kyle understands and realizes the love and relationship Doug and I had, it was/is like non other in either of our families. Doug was a very special person in my life and it is an honor and privilege that we can name Zeke in his memory!
PATE: We thought it would be best to keep the Pate tradition going and would definitely be less confusing if he had the same last name as us :) haha
So there you have it our sweet baby boy's official name!
Much love and excitement!
Kyle + Mary + Zeke + Kato & Bear-Bear
